Belarus, Egypt to step up cooperation in cybersecurity

Ways to boost cooperation in cybersecurity were discussed during the visit of Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov to Egypt on 4 April, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Egypt.

The Belarusian delegation included Andrei Zenevich, rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications. Sergei Popkov held talks with Yasser ElKady, Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, with the participations of representatives of Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Information Technology Industry Development Agency, Computer Emergency Response Team, National Telecommunications Institute, and the Smart Village administration.

The sides discussed the formation of a modern digital economy in the context of Belarus' achievements, ways to expand cooperation in cybersecurity, innovations and entrepreneurship, exchange of experience in the establishment of science parks, research and development in IT, and also training ICT specialists under master's programs and short-term courses at the Belarusian State Academy of Communications.

The Belarusian delegation explored the opportunities of Egypt's Smart Village and made a visit to the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Sergei Popkov had a meeting with Prime Minister of Egypt Sherif Ismail to discuss promising avenues of Belarus-Egypt cooperation in communications and information technologies. They agreed that a delegation of Egyptian ICT specialists will take part in the international forum TIBO 2018 in Minsk.

The Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in communications and IT with the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The Belarusian delegation also participated in a roundtable discussion on prospects of and opportunities for Belarus-Egypt cooperation in IT organized by the Council of International Cooperation. The event brought together representatives of more than 40 major Egyptian companies and organizations seeking cooperation with Belarus.

During the discussion, the minister talked about the main avenues of ICT development in Belarus. The event was dedicated to joint development and production of ICT equipment, outsourcing of computer services, cooperation in telecom network construction, contract technology transfer, and exchange of experience in digital transformation of information.

The Belarusians also presented the opportunities of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications, including the Smart Home technology. The State Academy of Communications (Belarus) and the National Telecommunications Institute (Egypt) signed an agreement on cooperation in education and science.
