Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica and Chinese technology vendor Huawei have signed a contract to deploy ‘4.5G’ networks in Bogota (Colombia), Monterrey (Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The upgrades will utilise 4×4 MIMO, tri-band carrier aggregation (3C), 256QAM functionality and CloudAIR (Huawei’s proprietary technology), the companies noted. The aforementioned cities should expect to see 4.5G deployments ‘in the next few months’, with other countries likely to benefit from the upgrade later in 2018.
