Telia Lietuva boosts copper line speeds with ‘Super VDSL’

Telia Lietuva has announced the rollout of ‘Super VDSL’ (S-VDSL) technology, which enables maximum internet speeds of up to 250Mbps over copper lines, for residential and business customers. S-VDSL technology has already been installed in Alytus, Anyksciai, Ariogala, Birzai, Elektrenai, Ignalina, Jonava, Vandziogala, Prienai, Radviliskis, Raseiniai, Sakiai, Trakai, Trakai, Ukmerge, Utena, Taurage and Vievis. In the near future, the service will be launched in Kretinga, Palanga, Priekule and Salantai, with coverage set to reach the majority of Lithuanian cities and neighbourhoods by the end of the year. The Swedish-owned firm estimates that more than 70,000 residents and businesses with a Telia DSL line will be able to benefit from S-VDSL technology.

Speeds will depend on the length of the copper line connecting the exchange and end-user equipment; if it is shorter than 700 metres, data download speed will be up to 250Mbps, and if the distance is 700-1,200 metres, the speed will be a maximum of 100Mbps. The maximum data upload speed in both cases will be 56Mbps.

‘We have the largest fibre-optic internet network in Lithuania, which makes even Western countries envy us. However, there still are a lot of people who have fixed telephone lines at home. From now on, our S-VDSLtechnology will allow these users to have internet ensuring an impressive speed and stable connectivity. This is especially relevant in Lithuanian regional centres and smaller neighbourhoods where a lot of people live in private houses,’ commented Andrius Semeskevicius, Head of Technology at Telia Lietuva.
