The Guyanese government has announced the establishment of a new telecommunications regulator, one of the key targets set out in the country’s 2016 Telecommunication Act.
The new independent regulatory body, dubbed the Guyana Telecommunications Agency, will absorb the National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) and will be responsible for a number of essential administrative and organisational activities including finalisation of licensing procedures in preparation for liberalisation and the issuance of new licences to telecommunication entities.
