Colombian 4G subscriptions top 10 million

Colombia reached a total of 60.78 million mobile lines at the end of the third quarter, up 3.8 percent year on year and over a million sequentially, with prepay subscriptions accounting for 79.5 percent of subscriptions and penetration rising to 123.3 percent of the population, according to the latest quarterly report from the country's ICT ministry Mintic. The mobile market was driven by the increasing popularity of 4G subscriptions, which topped 10 million for the first time, rising 78 percent year on year to hit 10.1 million at the end of September and accounting for 46 percent of mobile broadband connections.

Claro (America Movil) continued to dominate the market with 47.9 percent of lines, followed by Movistar (Telefonica) with 23.2 percent and Tigo-Une (Millicom) with 18.3 percent.

Fixed lines continued to fall, declining 3 percent year on year to 6.9 million at the end of September. However, fixed internet connections rose to 6.3 million at the end of the third quarter with high speed (10 Mbps plus) connections climbing 95 percent.
