Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings' (HTHKH) mobile arm 3 Hong Kong has become the city's first mobile operator to support bill and other payments from the new AlipayHK eWallet.
Under the arrangement, 3 Hong Kong customers are now able to settle phone bills or make other payments at any 3Shop using the eWallet app.
Alipay HK has been developed by a joint venture between 3 Hong Kong's ultimate parent, conglomerate CK Hutchison, and Alibaba's payments arm Ant Financial.
This partnership was forged in September, and establishment of the venture is expected to be complete in the current quarter.
During a promotional period running until the end of March, 3 Hong Kong users downloading and registering for AliPay will receive two HK$25 ($3.20) discount coupons for 3 Hong Kong bills, prepaid SMS recharges or handset, accessory or prepaid credit purchases.
Customers will also receive 1GB of free data for each time they settle a 3 Hong Kong mobile bill using the app, up to a total of 6GB per billing month, as well as discount offers branded as eStamps worth up to HK$25 per month.
“Mobile payment has become a hot global trends, and 3 Hong Kong is keen to promote fintech applications and services,” HTHKH executive director and CEO Cliff Woo said.
“We are therefore delighted to become the first local operator to collaborate with AlipayHK in order to provide users with a secure, simple and convenient mobile payment method.”
