According to figures published by Anatel, Latin America’s largest market ended October with over 95 million 4G lines, becoming one of the first countries in the region to have more 4G than 3G subscriptions.
As recently published by the organisation 5G Americas, Brazil, along with Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Costa Rica, has one of the highest 4G penetrations in the region.
The results follow impressive growth throughout the year, with 4G lines increasing by 81.2%, up 42.7 million units.
3G is the second most used mobile technology, with 92.2 million lines, followed by 2G, which is still used by 35.2 million subscribers.
With 5G shortly appearing, growing 4G penetration is good news for mobile-focused video services. In fact, several players, including TIM and Telefónica have recently increased their investment in video to boost mobile services across Brazil.
