RealNetworks, a messaging services provider, has announced the launch of Kontxt, a platform that enables the management of next-generation messaging on mobile networks.
Kontxt allows operators to provide an improved messaging service for its users through the following product features: it reliably blocks spam and other unwanted messages; manages grey-route traffic; it classifies message streams and systematically enforces delivery policies; it offers class-of-service delivery prioritisation to enterprise senders and accurately tag messages.
Max Pellegrini, president of mobile services at RealNetworks, said: "Kontxt will help power the next phase of messaging. Kontxt enables mobile network operators, messaging aggregators and interconnect vendors to deliver and create more value from their messaging networks. Kontxt builds on Real's deep experience in messaging. Our Metcalf inter-carrier messaging platform is deployed in nearly 400 carriers worldwide and processes almost 2 billion messages each day."
The Kontxt product uses advanced machine learning algorithms to identify the intent and origins of messages, even when the message metadata is spoofed or otherwise misrepresented. It also groups the messages into classes or categories, allowing network operators to route and prioritise messages accordingly. For example, Kontxt has distinguish between two-factor authentication (2FA) messages, promotional messages and spam, which all have different levels of delivery urgency or that may require blocking.
Commenting on the product launch, Nick Lane, chief analyst at Mobilesquared, said: "The messaging industry is rapidly evolving, and A2P use cases in particular are multiplying," said "Network operators will need to deploy more advanced management technology if they want to take full advantage of the opportunity this represents."
According to mobile intelligence research firm Mobilesquared, A2P message volume will double to 3 trillion by 2020. However, as A2P volume increases, unmanaged delivery represents a huge loss of potential revenue in the wireless sector. Mobilesquared estimates worldwide potential revenue lost to grey-route message traffic is an approximate $15 billion per year.
Additionally. Kontxt includes SMS, MMS, and RCS support for message protocols. It is available for immediate commercial testing and can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud, or as a fully managed service.
Infobip, the global cloud communications provider, earlier this month said that is has been delivering four million A2P (application–to-person) SMS messages in India since the beginning of 2017. The cloud provider says that it has seen a surge in demand for A2P SMS driven by its adoption by businesses in the finance and retail sectors.
