At the official launch, Digicel Tonga announced that it has invested in the upgrade of over 50% of its sites across the Kingdom of Tonga with 4G+ services and coverage includes the main islands of Tongatapu, Vava’u and Ha’apai. This is the cornerstone of a US$1.7m investment which demonstrates Digicel’s commitment to improving its communications services to the people of Tonga.
The timely launch combined with Digicel’s Christmas Campaign will boost customers online experience, be it YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or simply browsing the internet. The improved data speed is enhanced with the new 4G+ platform operating off 700 and 1800 MHz. Customers will get up to 80Mbps for downloads and 20Mpbs for uploads.
Ben Kealy, CEO at Digicel Tonga said: “This significant development marks the latest step for Digicel Tonga as we implement 4G+ across the Kingdom of Tonga, an investment that will provide the fastest network speed in the Kingdom. Our goal is to provide customers with access to the best services at the most competitive prices. This 4G+ upgrade, in partnership with Huawei comes at no extra cost to our customers, in fact it will further enable our customers to stay connected with friends and family both at home and abroad with our new and exciting 4G+ Double Data offer.”
He went onto say: “Only 9 years ago, Digicel entered the communications & entertainment market in Tonga and faced tough competition. Today, we have a strong customer base which is growing as customers connect to the bigger, better and now faster network. Our aim is to provide our customers with world class online experience connecting people in Tonga across the globe.”
This network upgrade coincides with the launch of the Christmas campaign ‘bringing Joy home this Christmas.’ This campaign is aimed at providing customers with what matters most, ‘People and Relationships,’ and with that, Digicel is offering customers a Christmas Top up Card valued at $149 with a FREE 4G enabled smartphone, credit to talk and text any local mobile and landline, including the top 20 international destinations and 1Gb of free data.
The Christmas launch will feature the annual event of the Santa Parade through Nuku’alofa’s CBD, the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at Digicel Square with fun and games for Kids, a visit with Christmas hampers to Senior Citizen’s across Tongatapu and Children with Special needs at Mango Tree Centre.
Digicel Tonga is dedicated to not only be the key driver in the evolution of Tongan telecommunications landscape, since its inception here in 2008 but to also be involved with the local community.
In concluding, Mr Kealy said: “We’re here to deliver the best value and services to our customers, enabling them to experience a high quality speed that is part and parcel of our overall implementation strategy and in saying that, Digicel looks forward to bringing Joy to our customer’s homes this Christmas with a bigger, better and faster network experience.”
