Swedish telecoms regulator PTS said it has updated its analysis regarding the 700 MHz frequency auction and is seeking comments by 15 November. It is now proposing to allocate 2 x 10 MHz less than it stated in its 2015 study. The watchdog said many of its previous recommendations remain unchanged, and it considers the conditions for allocating resources in the band as good.
PTS proposes to allocate 2 x 20 MHz as a block permit through a selection procedure, along with another 20 MHz that could be used to expand capacity to receive mobile data. This is a reduction of 2 x 10 MHz compared with its 2015 study.
This is because the government has decided to release 2 x 10 MHz for terrestrial TV up to and including 31 December 2018. Other resources will be available for other use from 01 November 2017.
PTS considers that the band should be used for wireless broadband on the public networks. It sees no grounds to delay assigning the frequencies until the government decides what to do with the other 2 x 10 MHz.
