T-Mobile Netherlands adding TD-LTE capacity

T-Mobile Netherlands has announced that it is introducing TD-LTE capacity in the 2600MHz frequency band to augment its 4G LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, which currently operates in the FDD 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands. The cellco’s press release says that the TD-LTE addition can potentially increase LTE-A speeds by up to 120Mbps. Initially, 2600MHz services are being activated in the most crowded and densely populated areas. By the end of 2017, a ‘large part’ of the T-Mobile network will actively support the TD-LTE band, with most new smartphones usable on TDD and FDD LTE-A bands.

T-Mobile’s release also confirmed that the recently disclosed rollout of LTE-2100 coverage has been completed on a ‘nationwide’ basis, whilst adding that existing 900MHz/1800MHz/2100MHz 4G speeds have been boosted by the deployment of 256 QAM technology, enabling mobile data speeds of ‘up to 450Mbps’.
