Costa Rican state-owned utility provider Grupo Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (Grupo ICE) – which offers telecoms services under the Kolbi brand – installed LTE equipment at 452 sites, including 200 new locations, between July 2016 and July 2017. The rollout concentrated on more densely-populated areas, with the operator noting that the Central Valley area received the largest number of installations. In particular, the LTE deployments focused on ‘strategic locations’ such as shopping centres, tourist sites and hospitals. Alongside the 4G rollout, ICEadded that it had also bolstered its GSM coverage in certain areas.
