Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) announced at the 33rd Canto annual conference in the Dominican Republic that it has successfully completed the region's first trial of LTE-Advanced Pro (LTE-A Pro) technology in Antigua and Barbuda. The pre-5G technology trial, a combined effort with parent company Liberty Global, paves the way to converting Antigua into the first country in the region with an LTE-A Pro network, delivering download peak speeds of up to 800 Mbps, as well as lower latency, more capacity and improved reliability for customers, said CWC.
In the trial's next phase to be held in October, the company expects to test a 5G prototype reaching 2 to 5 Gbps peak speeds. If successful, CWC said it will invest another USD 5 million in Antigua alone to significantly upgrade the island’s wireless infrastructure.
