Orange Liberia extends LTE

Orange Liberia (formerly known as Cellcom) has announced the launch of ‘Liberia’s first 4G LTE network outside of Monrovia’, switching on its network in Kakata, the capital of Margibi County, a transit town at the heart of the country’s historical natural rubber cultivation belt. Reporting on the launch, All Africa quotes William F. Saamoi Jr, Orange’s Director for Government and Legal Affairs, as promising that the Kakata 4G switch-on would be followed by successive launches of new LTE networks in cities across the country, stressing that ‘Monrovia is not Liberia’.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Orange completed its 100% acquisition of Cellcom Liberia in April 2016, and went on to rebrand the operation in May 2017. One of Orange’s first actions was to introduce LTE connectivity in capital city Monrovia, shortly after the deal was completed.
