Sat-Trakt to present FTTH in Subotica

Serbian cable TV and broadband provider Sat-Trakt will launch fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in Subotica, the second most populous city in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, on 1 June, eKapika reports. The new network will provide customers with faster access speeds as well as a more stable connection, the operator noted, adding that the technology allows for easier maintenance and few interventions, limiting the potential disruption for end users. The company claims to be one of the first operators in Serbia to introduce FTTH technology, and one of the only providers to deploy the technology in rural areas, having already rolled out the platform to villages in the Vojvodina region. A spokesperson for the firm was quoted as saying: ‘Most operators [see rural fibre deployments] as unprofitable, because the network setup is more expensive than in the city. [Our connected villages vary in size] from 150 to 5,000 people, and it is important to us as a company … to contribute to technological and social development in general. Our investment is also cost effective in the long term’.
