Al Jazeera Media Network announced the official launch of Contrast VR — a new immersive media studio that brings to life 360 video, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality.
Banking on the unique strengths of Al Jazeera, Contrast VR has unparalleled access to real, powerful stories from the Middle East as well as deep insights into the regions of “the south.”
As a prime example of this content strategy, Contrast VR has released a 360 video telling the story of a group of youths in Gaza who skate in the city’s rubble and alleyways, demonstrating the difficulties the boys encounter and showing the world how they make the most of life under siege.
The introduction of Contrast VR is part of the Network's wider digital strategy. Dr Yaser Bishr, Executive Director of Digital, said, "The use of today’s VR technologies is still in its infancy, but steadily growing in the Arab world and globally. With this in mind, Al Jazeera produces unique stories allowing viewers to live through real stories, immersed in fascinating experiences, excitement and hope.”
“Al Jazeera’s content connects those with the technology with people who have vivid, moving stories, creating a feeling of a shared reality.”
As a new brand from Al Jazeera, Contrast VR co-produces and distributes immersive content while also serving as a central hub to explore the variety of 360 and VR content from across the entire Al Jazeera Media Network. In addition, audiences will discover “Contrast VR Originals” which will feature high-end documentaries revealing a deeply personal view of the most pressing regional and global issues while taking full advantage of immersive technologies.
