Residents in Sweden’s capital city, Stockholm can soon expect to receive record-breaking 4G LTE connection speeds, following successful tests by cellco Telia Company and vendor Ericsson. The pair demonstrated maximum speeds of 757Mbps in a live 4G network, proving the technology’s readiness for 5G and advanced applications such as virtual and augmented reality. Telia achieved speeds of 757Mbps with 4G spectrum using Massive MIMO, a technology for wireless communications in which multiple antennas are used.
Head of Network products for Ericsson in Nordics and Baltics, Peter Malm commented: ‘By simultaneously transferring parallel data streams over the radio access technology and aggregating spectrum resources, top speeds are increasing … Pushing the limits now in a commercial network rather than in a lab environment proves that we can drive 4G and 5G development faster and with quality for consumers wanting better picture and sound quality and advanced services.’
