French Polynesian government-owned mobile operator Vini has launched LTE services in Pape’ete and the surrounding areas, with the network footprint spanning from Arue to Puna’auia. Regional news outlet Megazap writes that existing subscribers to Vini’s ‘Premium’ and ‘Internet Mobile Only’ plans can immediately access the network at no extra cost, and will also have their data allowance increased from 1GB to 2GB. Customers will also require a compatible device and SIM, the latter of which is available for free from Vini stores in exchange for users’ old SIMs. The cellco plans to cover the entirety of Tahiti, as well as the islands of Moorea and Bora Bora by the end of 2017.
