Provincial Canadian full-service telco SaskTel has recently expanded 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage to 146 additional wireless towers serving rural areas and communities across Saskatchewan. Southern/south-west Saskatchewan is now fully covered, whilst SaskTel now claims overall 92% LTE coverage of the province, with ‘full coverage’ anticipated next month. CEO Ron Styles said: ‘SaskTel is committed to investing in infrastructure that will position the company to lay the groundwork for future network enhancements, such as the introduction of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE). We understand that rural customers want access to the highest speeds available and we are working hard to deliver a world class cellular network in all rural areas.’ The expansion of LTE is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over CAD300 million (USD223 million) in Saskatchewan in 2016/17 and CAD1.4 billion through 2016-2021.
