Etisalat, which is a member of European Telecommunication Standardization Institute (ETSI), has nominated Dr. Abdulhadi AbouAlmal to represent its candidacy. Etisalat, effectively, is the only candidate from the SAMENA region. Along with Etisalat's top leadership, SAMENA Telecommunications Council is also supporting the candidature of Dr. AbouAlmal, who is the head of Etisalat Technology Standardization and Spectrum Management, and is leading the development of Internet of Things / Smart City and 5G infrastructures as well as setting the regional Spectrum strategies.
Dr. AbouAlmal has been chairing several international standardization groups, including ITU-R and ITU-T working groups (e.g.,ITU-T SG20-Q4/Q6 on IoT and Smart City). He has wide technical and leadership expertise and has been representing Etisalat, Mobile industry, UAE Administration, Arab Spectrum Management Group and Arab Permanent Group for Standardization in the international development of several technology and spectrum aspects for more than 10 years. He has also been making remarkable contributions at regional and international levels including ITU-R, ITU-T, 3GPP RAN, GSMA, SAMENA Council, and UCMIG.
SAMENA Telecommunications Council believes that Dr. AbouAlmal will utilize his full technical and leadership capabilities on a neutral basis to further develop 3GPP work and will add value to the 3GPP RAN work in general in his prospective vice-chairman’s role.
