Orange Spain has announced an agreement to bring fibre-optic services to the northern town of Astorga in a project valued at EUR 1.3 million. Around 8,000 premises, equivalent to practically all local homes and businesses, will eventually have fibre-optic coverage, said Orange. The operator has already spent around EUR 300,000 to extend its 4G network to around 94 percent of the town's population.
Orange last year announced that its FTTH network will be extended to 14 million Spanish households by the end of 2019, one year earlier than planned, thanks to an investment of EUR 1.5 billion to EUR 1.7 billion. The operator is also investing a further EUR 1.5 billion to bring 4G technology to 95 percent of the Spanish population by the end of this year.
