Russian mobile operator Megafon plans to upgrade its network in two regions in Nortth-Western federal district this year. Large projects focused on the replacement of base stations were carried out in 11 regions in 2016. The project on network optimisation was completed in St Petersburg in December 2016.
In 2016, Megafon launched its LTE services in the city of Velikiye-Luki and in the town of Pechory in the Pskov region. The amount of LTE base stations was raised by over 500 percent in the region, including an increase of over 50 percent in the Novgorod region. Some sixty percent of all base stations currently support the LTE standard in the Ivanovo region. LTE services also were significantly expanded in the Murmansk region, launching in Olenegorsk, Nikel, Zaozyorsk, Kirovsk, Kola, Snezhnogorsk, Polyarny and other settlements.
The LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network of the operator is available in St Petersburg, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Kaliningrad and Yaroslavl.
