Telenor Maritime has a long-standing relation to Color Line and announces that the world first shipborne 4G network is operating on one of its ships, enabling passengers to enjoy 4G speeds while surfing on mobile phones, significantly enhancing the user experience.
“The recently introduced connectivity platform is a major steppingstone for the ongoing digital transformation on Color Line ships, it enable us to move fast forwards facilitating the introduction of 4G, that further enhance the passenger experience when using their mobile devices,” said Frode Støldal, CEO of Telenor Maritime.
State of the art maritime 4G is not new for Telenor Maritime, having built and operating high-speed 4G networks on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) covering all oil fields in the Norwegian and the North Sea, which significantly improves communication between platforms, rigs, and supply ships. Mobile operators and technology have through time, influenced how businesses operate, and this network will facilitate even more innovation and efficiency improvement on the NCS which is equally applicable to ships.
“Color Line is a technological and digital frontrunner at sea. The introduced maritime 4G service proves to be more robust than 3G, allowing for more data transport. In turn, this opens up for a multitude of services, such as locally stored digital content, films to mention one. I believe this will contribute to elevating the passenger’s user experience,” Mr Støldal continued.
