Bitel, the Peruvian cellco owned by Vietnam’s Viettel Group, launched its 900MHz 4G LTE network on 16 December, the company confirmed via Twitter.
According to local news site El Comercio, the cellco has initially deployed a total of 1,750 4G base stations, achieving coverage of 500 population centres at launch. Going forward, Bitel expects to activate a further 1,500 LTE cell sites by 2Q17, thus expanding its 4G footprint to cover a total of 15,000 population centres.
