Dhiraagu to expand LTE nationwide by end-2017

Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun (Dhiraagu), the Maldives’ incumbent telecoms operator, has embarked on an expansion project to roll out 4G LTE services across the entire country. Last year the firm completed a campaign to provide 3G mobile broadband services to 100% of Maldivians on all inhabited islands, and it states that its focus is now on offering nationwide coverage of its LTE network, which is currently available to 60% of the population. Dhiraagu is aiming to complete the 4G expansion project by the end of 2017.

‘In a geographically dispersed nation, ensuring such coverage to all inhabited islands regardless of population size does not come without challenges,’ commented Dhiraagu CEO and MD Ismail Rasheed, adding: ‘However, having good internet access is as important for someone living in a remote island as it is for someone living in the capital city. Our focus is to expand our services to benefit all the people across the country.’
