Pakistan-China fiber optic cable project goes live in Gilgit

Pakistan has launched the Pakistan-China Optical Fiber Cable Project, which is part of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Daily Pakistan reports. The project is expected to improve connectivity in Gilgit-Baltistan. Customers in the area will soon have access to 3G and 4G services.

The Optical Fiber Cable project will involve overall investments of USD 44 million and will be completed in two years. The Special Communication Organization will lay 820 kilometre long cable from Rawalpindi to Khunjarab. Following deployment completion, the cable is expected to provide an alternate telecommunication route between Pakistan and China.
