China's three major operators pledge less fees, better service

China's three major telecom operators promised a new round of fee cuts and industry upgrades. The telecoms also promised to strengthen their 4G networks nationwide.

China Mobile says it would increase all of its household internet speeds to more than 20 megabits per second. That's while China Telecom says it will launch 4G plus service in 330 cities this year. China Unicom aims to let half of its broadband customers use rates of 20 megs per second while 15 percent would enjoy speeds of 50 megs per second.

The telecoms also promised to cut mobile internet fees, and gradually cancelling long-distance and roaming fees. The government wants the telecoms to provide cheaper and better products while spurring consumption and innovation in IT.
