Smile Tanzania introduces VoLTE, unlimited 4G data plan

Mauritius-based ISP Smile Communications Tanzania has launched two new LTE services, namely ‘SmileVoice’ and ‘SmileUnlimited’. The SmileVoice app allows users to make domestic and international voice and video calls utilising voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology (even customers without VoLTE-enabled handsets), while SmileUnlimited provides 30 days of unlimited access to Smile’s LTE mobile broadband service at a price tag of TZS125,000 (USD55.99) per month. According to local site the Daily News, Eric Behner, Country Manager at Smile Communication Tanzania, commented: ‘With the first tranche of our recently announced debt and equity funding, Smile has expanded its existing 4G LTE network to seven cities providing 30 days unlimited access to SuperFast mobile broadband.’ Behner also noted that the data offering is subject to a fair usage policy (FUP). The operator’s time division duplex LTE (TD-LTE) network provides coverage in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Morogoro and Mbeya.
