A joint innovation centre is to be established by Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) and ZTE Corporation to enhance over-the-top (OTT) video services in Pakistan.
The PTCL-ZTE ‘big video’ joint innovation centre (JIC) will support the convergence of PTCL’s digital infrastructure, improve customer experience when using connected TVs and mobile devices, and help develop premium services including 4K Ultra HD.
“PTCL has been a leader in providing digital entertainment. Big video JIC in Pakistan will enable us to provide new and innovative video services for people in Pakistan, with local research and development to meet our local, cultural and digital requirements,” said Adnan Shahid, chief commercial officer, PTCL.
The Pakistan telco currently uses ZTE’s platform to deliver OTT video for both live TV and on-demand content.
Zhu Jinyun, senior vice president, cloud computing & IT, ZTE, recently expressed the company’s excitement at further collaboration with PTCL “in various domains including PTCL smart TV offering for creating superior user experience for customers in Pakistan”.
