DE-CIX announces Zain,'s increased capacity at two key global internet exchanges

DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet exchange operator, announces today that Zain, a leading telecom innovator in eight markets across the Middle East and Africa, has increased capacity at two key global Internet exchanges: DE-CIX in Frankfurt, Germany, and UAE-IX in Dubai, UAE. Zain Group joined DE-CIX in March 2013 and since then has substantially upgraded its capacity in order to offer millions of customers an outstanding mobile experience. In addition, Zain will use its network to connect additional networks to both of these exchanges.

Henri Kassab, Managing Director of International Wholesale & Roaming, Zain Group outlines, “The massive data growth projections for the Middle East have prompted a rethink of the industry’s business model, with Zain focused on ensuring Internet traffic is transported and managed across a reliable, diverse and secure network. That is why DE-CIX and UAE-IX are key elements to our strategy in providing greater value and a better Internet experience to our partners and the whole value chain.”

“Internet traffic growth is exploding in the Middle East,” adds Harald A. Summa, DE-CIX CEO. “We welcome such a robust carrier to DE-CIX Frankfurt and UAE-IX in Dubai because of the important traffic that Zain will transport to and from the Middle East. Zain has a critical role in ensuring the high quality of the Internet in the Middle East. We look forward to working with them to expand the number of service providers that can interconnect and peer with key global carriers in both regions.”
