Aircel sees mobile data revenue jump 60% in 2015

Indian mobile operator Aircel reports it has achieved a 60 percent growth in data revenue in 2015, mainly due to its ‘Be Online with Aircel’ umbrella initiative, which aims to boost mobile internet penetration on the local market. Mobile data consumption has also increased by 65 percent in the period, the operator said.

Aircel also reported a 104 percent growth in 3G revenues and 167 percent increase of its 3G customer base in 2015 compared to 2014. Smartphone adoption in the Aircel network has grown by 61 percent.

As part of the ‘Be Online with Aircel’ umbrella initiative, Aircel is offering services such as Free Basic Internet (now banned in India) and Unlimited 3G access for INR 9 per day. Aircel has also introduced a ‘1 GB for all’ mobile internet service for prepay customers. The validity of the pack will change according to the customer’s usage pattern. For example, the validity of the pack would be higher for a customer whose data usage pattern is lower compared to a customer who uses data extensively.
