aioTV awarded hybrid TV patent

Attempting to establish a differentiator in the key US OTT market, aioTV has been granted US Patent No 9,241,179 by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent covers, among other things, the unification of traditional linear channels with over-the-top (OTT)/Web channels, channel creation from multiple OTT sources, and authentication for one or more OTT sources.

"The unification of OTT with legacy multichannel has become table stakes for MVPDs and consumer electronics manufactures as consumers spend more time connecting with online content,” said Mike Earle, CEO at aioTV. "We saw where the market was headed over five years ago, and now with successful execution, we have the IP. Any CE manufacturer, MVPD or application developer looking to unify multichannel legacy video services with hyper-curated OTT/Web video will truly benefit from what we have developed and patented."

AioTV enables companies to combine personalised OTT content with legacy video-on-demand (VOD) and linear broadcast TV. It also offers curation and orchestration engines, and provides dedicated APIs allowing application developers to create client experiences that span OTT and linear content.

AioTV continues to add IP to its portfolio. About 18 months ago it was awarded a patent grant for the combination of multiple sources of live, on-demand and freely available Internet content.
