China Mobile's Pakistani subsidiary Zong will reportedly have its 3G spectrum replaced by the end of the month after resolving a disupte over signal distortion on its assigned airwaves.
Regulator, the Pakistani Telecommunications Authority (PTA), has agreed to swap out Zong's holding with alternative spectrum by the end of the month, a local news website, Pro Pakistani, reported citing unnamed sources.
Zong has been facing signal iterference issues with its 3G services as a result of the use of DECT 6.0 phones creating noise and interference on its 3G bands in the 1920-MHz to 1930-MHz and the 2100-MHz to 2120-MHz blocks.
Zong had filed a legal notice against the PTA because they had put the spectrum up for auction even though the interference issues pre-existed the auction.
The company demanded $40 million in compensation for loss of market share, costs incurred as a result of fighting the interference and other expenses.
But the sources said after reaching the agreement to have the spectrum replaced Zong is likely to drop its demands. There won't be any cost involved in changing the spectrum, the sources said.
