Internet of things report 2015

Many sectors will benefit from utilising loT ecosystems:

Manufacturing: 35% of manufacturers already use smart sensors, 10% plan to implement them within a year and 8% plan to implement them within three years, according to a PwC report.

Transportation: There will be over 220 m connected cars on by 2020.

Defense: The spending on drones will reach an $8.7 billion in 2020.

Agriculture: 75 million loT device installations for agricultural uses in 2020.

Infrastructure: Municipalities worldwide will increase their spending on loT systems at a 30% CAGR to $133 billion in 2019.

Retail: In the US, $44.4 billion will be generated from beacon-triggered messages.

Logistics: Tracking sensors placed on parcels and containers will help reduce costs associated with lost or damaged goods.

Banks: There are nearly 3 million ATMs installed globally in 2015, according the World Bank.

Oil, gas, and mining: An estimated 5.4-million loT devices will be used on oil extraction sites by 2020.

Insurance: 74% of insurance executives believe loT will disrupt insurance and 74% plan to invest in implementing loT strategies by 2016, according to SMA survey.

Connected Home: By 2030, the majority of home devices shipped will be connected to the internet.

Food Services: 310 million loT devices will be used by food services cos by 2020.

Utilities: Energy cos will be installing nearly 1-billion smart meters by 2020.

Hospitality: 31% of hotels use nextgeneration door locks and 15% use beacons throughout the hotel.

Healthcare: 646 million loT devices will be used for healthcare by 2020.

Smart Buildings: 43% of building managers in the US believe the loT will affect how they run their building within the next two to three years.
