Vodafone India today announced that it will launch 4G services in the city by December. Testing of 4G services has commenced successfully, the company said in a release.
Vodafone is investing heavily in high capacity fibre or backhaul to significantly increase the internet connectivity. Kolkata, with 25 percent of data revenues, is one of the top data markets for the service provider here in India and is growing at more than 50 per cent year-on-year.
Besides Kolkata, launch of 4G services has also been announced in Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi. Vodafone has invested over ₹96 crore to augment and upgrade the existing 2G/ G networks in the city, the statement said.
So far, Airtel is the only telco to have 4G services in the city.
