Meditel launches ADSL services

Moroccan telecoms operator Medi Telecom (Meditel) has launched ADSL services. Meditel is marketing its ADSL Duo subscription plan – bundling fixed telephony line with unlimited calls to all landlines and 120 minutes of calls to mobiles, and broadband access with downlink of 12Mbps – for MAD240 (24.46) per month. In addition, potential users need to purchase a router for MAD490 and pay set-up fees of MAD149 and MAD240. In comparison, Maroc Telecom is offering a monthly subscription plan with similar parameters for MAD199.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in June 2014 the National Agency for Regulation of Telecommunications (Agence Nationale de Reglementation de Telecom, ANRT) published the rules governing local loop unbundling (LLU) in Morocco. Although the incumbent telco Maroc Telecom was required to provide a technical and tariff wholesale offer for passive access to its fixed local loop by 1 August (pushed back to 20 January 2015), the company is yet to publish the required documents.
