Mexico is the Latin American territory with fewer users of illegal over-the-top (OTT) services and the highest penetration of subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services according to Business Bureau.
Its New Media Essential report reveals that almost 40% of Chileans use pirate online platforms to stream series and films. In Mexico, the percentage is only 17%.
Although no other local trends are revealed in the report, the Argentinean consultancy looks at general, pan-American figures. Regarding free VOD, Nickelodeon's website and apps are the leading platforms, with 21% market share across the region, although YouTube and other social media digits aren't included in the report.
SVOD has one name in LATAM: Netflix. The American platform has almost one in three subs across the region. And regarding punctual VOD purchase, Google Play Movies (35%) and Apple TV (18%) are the leading services.
TV everywhere platforms have lower figures than independent services, mostly due to being linked to certain cable or satellite operators, according to Tomas Gennari, director at Business Bureau. However, Cartoon Network Go, Fox Play and TNT Go are the most used TV everywhere platforms in Latin America.
