EE doubles 4G customer base to maintain Europe-leading position

EE has more than doubled its 4G customer base, but saw reported revenues fall back in the third quarter.

The UK operator said it has now has 12.6 million 4G subscribers, who represent 52 percent of its total mobile customer base.

This maintains EE’s position as the largest 4G operator Europe, with the company “on track” to exceed 14 million customers by year-end.

The number of fixed broadband subscribers also increased, up 17 percent, while those taking more than one “connected product” exceeds one million.

The operator revealed it had signed up the first major customer to its M2M/IoT platform, unveiled last month.

The Royal Mail Group will keep 123,000 postmen and women connected through “Postal Digital Assistants”.

However, revenues fell 0.3 percent to £1.6 million [€2.2 million] after having turned a corner in the first half of the year.

CFO Neal Milsom said: “We’ve seen strong commercial momentum as business and consumers embrace the benefits of our network, with more than two-thirds of postpaid mobile customers now using 4G, providing a solid platform for the future.

“Our broader portfolio has boosted total connections to 31.3 million.

“Our new Connected products range, combined with a mix of premium and low cost 4G devices, now offer more choice than ever for our customers.”
