Africa's Paratus Telecom taps Infinera for metro fiber-optic network

Optical transport systems vendor Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) says that it has landed a supply deal for its TM-Series metro platform from Paratus Telecom. The service provider will use the WDM systems in a metro network deployment in Namibia.

The deployment will focus on Windhoek, Namibia's capital city. The need for increased fiber network capacity comes after Paratus Telecom acquired a local voice company in 2014.

Infinera added the TM-Series packet-optical transport platforms with its acquisition of Transmode. The system offers multi-service capabilities including MEF 2.0 certified Ethernet services, Multi-Protocol Label Switching - Transport Profile (MPLS-TP), and Optical Transport Network (OTN) aggregation. The system offers Paratus immediate access to 10-Gbps transport, with an upgrade path to 100 Gbps.

Infinera says it worked with local partner Adcomtec on the network upgrade, collaborating to supply the network technology as well as ongoing maintenance services.
