Huawei, Sri Lanka’s fastest growing smartphone announced that Sri Lanka is one of the fastest growing markets in the South Asia.
Speaking about the latest developments, Henry Liu, Country Head, Huawei Device Sri Lanka explained, “Sri Lanka has grown to be one of the key geographies in the South East Asia Regions for Huawei. We remain committed and will continue to invest further in the country, offering our valued customers and all our stakeholders, an experience which is truly inspiring”. Huawei also reports an increase of 300% of sales growth in only the H1 FY15, making it the best year in terms of sales volume since its smartphone operation was launched in 2012. According to IDC, Huawei smartphones enjoy a 18% market share.
“We would have sales to value of over Rs. 4.2 billion this year and hope to pass the Rs. 10 billion sales target end next financial year.”
He said that by next year they hope to capture nearly 30% market share in the smart phone segment. The company also revealed that Western Province has over 50% of total sales share in Sri Lanka with South -16%, Central - 17%, North and East - 21%, as other high performing regions. He said that while the South sells higher end devices to the North East sell more mid range phones.
Stanley Mascarenhas, Marketing Manager, Huawei Smartphones Sri Lanka reiterated, “We plan to increase our distribution network to 30 by Q3 FY15 and to 50 by Q2 FY16. This will make Huawei the most accessible smartphone brand in Sri Lanka. With the aggressive distribution focus, we will ensure our service offering will be of excellent quality. He added that the exclusive distributorship with SINGER is a perfect choice with its extensive reach and retail network and the solid trust it has built in the hearts of all Sri Lankans is a plus.
According to GFK, Huawei surpassed Samsung and Apple to achieve the largest market share in the China market, recording a market share of 12.9%, 13.6%, 14.1% and 15.2% in March, April, May and June respectively. In 1H 2015, Huawei Consumer BG shipped a total of 48.2 million smartphones, representing a year-on-year increase of 39%, while global smartphone demand has only recorded a 7% growth in the same period according to GFK.
