Ericsson wins new MTN Group billing deal

MTN Group has signed up Ericsson to provide its Order to Cash solution as it bids to update its billing infrastructure and provide new services.

The multi-year managed services deal, financial details of which were not disclosed, sees the vendor replace all of the operator’s legacy infrastructure across its 22 markets in Africa and the Middle East.

Ericsson said its Business Support Systems would enable MTN to optimise service delivery and enhance customer experience.

The Swedish company has provided MTN with billing solutions since 1996.

The operator is rolling out Ericsson’s mobile wallet solutions across its footprint.

Jyoti Desai, Group CTIO MTN said: "The new Ericsson Charging System will enable a host of new services like catalogue orchestrated charging, flexible refill and community charging, among several other different voice and data offerings for MTN's over 220 million prepaid customers.

“Multi Mediation supports the retrieval and processing of user data from all network nodes, so that such data can be made available to the relevant IT back-end systems and billed in real time. Multi Activation provides MTN with fully automated real-time fulfilment capabilities.”
