Spanish cable operator Ono has selected the Cisco media server for its next-generation TV platform provided in partnership with digital video recorder services provider TiVo. Cisco has completed the deployment of its DOCSIS 3.0-based CMTS, linked over Ono's fibre optics network, to Cisco's 8685DVB HD-DVR media servers – hybrid set-tops, containing both MPEG and DOCSIS tuners. The combination of DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS gear and in-home media servers is expected to enable Ono to move swiftly into multichannel HD, and multi-room digital video recording services for its customers. Ono can now offer 'traditional' linear video, as well as on-demand, DVR, and internet-sourced video. Ono will have full access to HD TV services, with time-shifting controls, as well as online social media, internet-delivered video, to multiple rooms within the home.
