Maroc Telecom doubles fiber internet speeds and reduces pricing to boost digital transformation

Maroc Telecom has announced a significant upgrade for its fiber internet subscribers, doubling broadband speeds across its plans. This move, which will affect the entire pricing structure, was confirmed by a reliable source within the company. An official announcement is expected shortly.

As early as Sunday, users began sharing screenshots on social media showing their upgraded speeds. Most notably, subscribers on the 100 Mb/s plan saw their speeds increase to 200 Mb/s. The rollout is progressing gradually, with some customers already experiencing the upgraded speeds, while others are still on their previous plans. However, the company has assured that the upgrade will apply to all fiber subscribers, regardless of their current plan.

This initiative reflects Maroc Telecom’s ongoing strategy of enhancing broadband speeds, a move that follows their tradition of regularly doubling ADSL speeds. “It’s part of the ongoing policy to reduce prices, which began several years ago, and marks a new chapter for the company,” said a source, referring to the recent appointment of Mohamed Benchaâboune as CEO and the improved relationship with rival operator Inwi, especially following their recent fiber agreement.

New Pricing Structure:

The current 100 Mb/s plan will double to 200 Mb/s at no extra charge, maintaining its price of 500 dirhams per month.

A new 100 Mb/s plan will be introduced at a lower price of 400 dirhams.

The top-tier plan, which previously offered 200 Mb/s, will now offer 1 Gb/s, still priced at 1,000 dirhams per month.

These changes confirm earlier reports from tech news outlet Tic Maroc. Maroc Telecom’s official website now displays the updated pricing, which will take effect on May 1. Both existing customers and new subscribers will automatically benefit from the updated speeds and pricing.

This move is considered a major step forward in Morocco’s digital transformation. By offering higher speeds at lower costs, the company is providing a key advantage for small businesses and individual users who are increasingly relying on high-speed internet for streaming, gaming, and the use of smart devices.

According to the latest data from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), Morocco had 42.13 million internet subscriptions as of September 2024, including 989,640 fiber connections. The move to reduce fiber pricing is expected to further accelerate digital adoption across the country.
