Sri Lanka and Oracle discuss digital transformation and cloud infrastructure

Sri Lanka and Oracle Corporation discussed a potential partnership to establish a sovereign Oracle Cloud region and a Digital Transformation Hub in Colombo Port City during the World Governments Summit in the United Arab Emirates.

The discussion took place between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Oracle’s Executive Vice Chairman Mike Sicilia.

The talks focused on Sri Lanka’s digital transformation, fintech adoption, and cloud infrastructure to improve economic and governance efficiency. Oracle expressed interest in supporting the country’s digitalisation through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

President Dissanayake invited Oracle to set up a sovereign Oracle Cloud region in Sri Lanka to host government applications, e-governance services, and a national data system while ensuring data sovereignty and regulatory compliance.

He also proposed establishing a Digital Transformation Hub in Colombo Port City as a South Asian AI and Cloud Hub and requested Sicilia to send a team to facilitate the initiative.

Sicilia acknowledged Oracle’s regional vision for digital transformation and expressed interest in positioning Sri Lanka as a leader in AI-driven cloud solutions. He highlighted the potential for public-private partnerships and investment in advanced technology.

President Dissanayake reiterated Sri Lanka’s commitment to using technology to improve governance, grow the economy, and enhance global competitiveness.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath, and Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof also participated in the discussions.
