MacTel deploys public cloud for mining tech company Callidus

Perth-based Callidus Process Solutions has partnered with Macquarie Telecom for Microsoft Azure public cloud and data services, for IT future proofing and reading an expansion into emerging mining markets such as Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.

Under the deal, MacTel will supply its hybrid cloud technology.

Initially, it will be focused on Macquarie Technology Group's Azure public cloud services, with a view to expanding workloads to best-fit private or public cloud environments on data centres at the east and west coast of Australia.

Callidus is also exploring using artificial intelligence to turn two-dimensional drawings into 3D visual ones, saying MacTel has provided the right data and cloud foundation for the technology along with a team of AI and data experts.

MacTel might also be supplying a range of cloud and network cyber security systems, following discussions with Callidus.

This includes its security operations centre (SOC) and secure access server edge (SASE) technology.

Overall, MacTel has saved Callidus around 20 per cent on its cloud environment through cost and resource optimisation mainly.

Server consolidation and reducing and de-duplicating data, and Macquarie's Azure Expert manage service provider (MSP) status have also reduced cost for Callidus.

A key driver for the mining tech company was to meet regulatory requirements for environmental, social and governance (ESG).

The federal government's new requirements under the Cyber Security Act coming into effect this year were also an important consideration, along with mandatory climate reporting changes from 2026, the company said.

“These requirements are important considerations for our customers, so we wanted to ensure we had a clean, structured data environment to accurately report," Callidus’ IT and Digital director, Jason Cavallaro said.

"Macquarie’s tech and team of experts have been vital to achieving this while also reducing the environmental footprint of our IT systems,” Cavallaro added.

Callidus specialises in flow control solutions to the mining, oil and gas industries, and new energy companies.
