Indian global information technology and system integration company Echelon Edge has partnered with a number of IT businesses to support the ongoing 4G network rollout by state-owned operator BSNL, a project reportedly covering over 100,000 sites nationwide.
Echelon Edge has joined a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium to integrate a comprehensive billing and customer care system with BSNL’s 4G network. It will work alongside other Indian companies including radio equipment maker Tejas Networks and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT).
Echelon Edge has told news outlets that its role in the project comes after the successful completion of a proof of concept (POC) phase, where the integration of C-DoT and Tejas Networks with Amdocs and other legacy BSS/OSS solutions was validated. This, according to Echelon Edge, highlights the company’s ability to manage both traditional and modern telecom systems.
The BSNL 4G rollout is expected to bring reliable, high-speed connectivity to millions, particularly in rural areas that often lack access to quality network services. Echelon Edge says its expertise in OSS/BSS integration will help BSNL manage its network more effectively, improving customer experiences and operational efficiency.
This news certainly showcases the potential of Indian-led innovation and collaboration in shaping the country’s telecom sector. It also takes India closer to creating a self-sufficient telecom ecosystem with BSNL’s 4G network. However, the big three private sector companies are already forging ahead with 5G.
This is not the first BSNL deal with Echelon Edge. Early last year we reported that the two companies had partnered to support the setting up of 5G private networks.
