Austrian public broadcaster ORF is revamping its HbbTV-based smart TV user interface and launching its own news app, which brings the latest national and international news to the TV screen in a new design.
The service is now available via the red button on the remote control on all HbbTV-capable TV sets in Austria.
“In all further developments of ORF’s digital offerings, we are focussing on the interests of the audience: We are currently seeing a clear trend towards increasingly accessing on-demand content on the TV screen, which has intensified since the launch of our new streaming platform ORF ON. With the redesigned HbbTV portal and the new HbbTV news app, we want to offer everyone in Austria a comprehensive overview of the ORF television programmes, the content highlights of ORF ON and the latest news,” said Stefan Pollach, Head of ORF’s Online and New Media Department.
The focus of ORF’s revised HbbTV portal is on programme highlights from the ORF ON streaming platform and ORF’s linear TV channels. Using the remote control, additional information on the selected TV format can be accessed and missed programmes can be called up on-demand with just one click. HbbTV apps such as ORF ON, weather, weather cams, Ö1, Ö3, FM4 and Teletext can be selected via the start page.
