Tejas Networks to help Vodafone Idea ramp up 4G and 5G rollouts

Tejas Networks has signed a three-year pact with Vodafone Idea to supply optical transmission products for network performance in an effort to boost 4G and 5G rollout across circles, the optic fiber company said on December 10.

"As VIL accelerates its pan-India 4G and 5G rollouts, it is critical to upgrade our backhaul network to be scalable, robust and future-ready to efficiently manage the expected growth in data traffic and rising bandwidth demands," Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea said.

The move will help Voda Idea expand and create a nationwide 4G and 5G network in India.

Anand Athreya, CEO and MD, Tejas Networks said the company has products that align with evolving needs of communication service providers such as VIL while 'drastically lowering the cost and energy per bit'.

Tejas said it will be providing Vodafone Idea with TJ1400 and TJ1600 packet and optical transmission products as part of the contract. TJ1400 is designed for cost-effective delivery of mobile backhaul, broadband access, enterprise and network modernization. 'Mobile backhaul' is the network infrastructure connecting cell towers to to the wired network of the telecom service provider.

Tejas had been engaging with Voda Idea with a Proof of Concept, and had said in October they 'hope to see business coming at the end of it', but it will be a little longer process.
