Odata, a Brazilian provider of data centre services for Latin America that is controlled by US group Aligned Data Centres, is reportedly investing US$1.3 billion to develop two more data centres in Colombia.
The facilities will be built in Bogota. The first phases of construction will be completed by the end of 2026.
The smaller facility of the two, known as DC BG02, will be located in the Zona Franca de Occidente in Mosquera and is expected to offer 24MW of IT capacity. DC BG03 will have up to 120MW of IT capacity.
On the company’s LinkedIn pages Odata says of DC BG03: “It is located in Zona Franca Metropolitana in Tenjo, Cundinamarca, Bogotá, and will become the largest data centre in the country."
DC BG03 is said to be designed to meet the needs of cloud and artificial intelligence providers. It will be directly connected to the local power transmission system which will, it is claimed, give Odata customers greater energy stability.
As the Data Centre Dynamics website points out, another Odata facility in Bogota – DC BG01 – was launched in 2018. It offers 14.6MW of IT capacity across 5,500 square metres of floor space and can accommodate densities of up to 10kW per rack.
Data Centre Dynamics adds that both of the new data centres will use Delta Cube air cooling technology, which was developed and patented by Aligned Data Centres and can cool racks with densities of up to 50kW.
