The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), in partnership with SAS Media Company, began a conference on generative AI bringing a host of both local and international experts under one roof.
The two-day ‘Oman Conference on Generative Artificial Intelligence – The Future of the Smart Economy 2024’ was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, to explore the role of Gen AI (generative AI) in enhancing Oman’s smart economy.
The conference brings together local and international experts to discuss how AI technologies can be harnessed to drive economic growth and innovation in the sultanate. The event was held under the patronage of H E Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
In his keynote address, H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology in MTCIT, highlighted global AI trends and stressed the importance of Oman’s National Programme for AI and Advanced Digital Technologies in adopting and localising AI. He outlined key projects that aim to integrate AI solutions across various sectors in Oman, positioning the country as a regional leader in digital transformation.
The conference also features a technical exhibition showcasing the latest AI innovations and smart solutions developed by local technology companies.
On Thursday, participants will attend two specialised workshops on AI technologies, focusing on their practical applications. The first workshop will delve into financial technologies (FinTech) in the AI era, examining advancements that enhance financial services and promote innovation. The second workshop will explore best practices in AI adoption, reviewing successful case studies and addressing challenges faced by businesses.
These workshops are designed to facilitate the exchange of expertise and offer guidance on using modern technologies to boost economic growth. Additionally, discussions will cover policies and regulations that support innovation, aiming to strengthen Oman’s capabilities in AI and its broader digital strategy.
Through this event, Oman sheds light on its commitment to fostering technological innovation and strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors. By leveraging modern technology, it seeks to build a smart, sustainable digital economy, for long-term economic and social development.
